Bradford Clean Air Zone
Inside and including the Bradford outer ring road, plus the Aire valley corridor (Manningham Lane/Bradford Road and Canal Road area) out to Shipley and Saltaire (Class C, about 9.35 square miles).
Who pays
Class C: HGVs, buses and coaches below Euro 6/VI diesel; minibuses, vans/LGVs, hackney carriages, wheelchair-accessible PHVs, private-hire minibuses (5-8 seats), campervans and motorhomes below Euro 6 diesel / Euro 4 petrol (LPG must meet Euro 4 petrol). Non-wheelchair-accessible private hire cars must be Euro 5/6 petrol hybrid or Euro 5 LPG. Private cars and motorbikes are not charged. Charged regardless of private or business use.
When it applies
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year; charge day midnight to midnight.

Discounts and exemptions
- National exemptions (automatic, all English CAZs): ultra low emission vehicles, disabled and disabled passenger tax class vehicles, military vehicles, historic vehicles, vehicles retrofitted under the Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme (CVRAS), certain agricultural vehicles
- Motor caravans with M1 type approval: automatic exemption
- Local exemptions (apply; vehicle must have been owned before 26 September 2022): community transport, charity vehicles, school buses (min Euro 4 with DPF), specialist vehicles, local SMEs (up to 3 vehicles), Bradford residents (one vehicle), residents' motorised horseboxes/motor caravans, limited-supply (awaiting replacement) sunset exemptions, showman's vehicles, emergency response vehicles, agricultural vehicles
- PHVs with 5-8 seats and LPG PHVs meeting set standards can apply (operators outside the district too)
- Grants listed on council site (some programmes closed or fully subscribed)
How to pay
Online at GOV.UK Drive in a Clean Air Zone service or by phone 0300 029 8888. No payment reminders are sent.
Payment deadline
Up to 6 days before, on the day, or up to 6 days after (by 11:59pm on the 6th day, per GOV.UK).
If you don't pay
PCN £120 plus the CAZ charge (£7, £9 or £50); reduced to £60 plus the charge if paid within 14 days. 28 days to pay or appeal, then a charge certificate raises the penalty by 50% to £180 (plus the charge). Registration at the Traffic Enforcement Centre adds £10.
Good to know
Live since 26 September 2022. Largest English CAZ by area; circle radius is a poor fit because of the Shipley/Saltaire corridor - use the council's shapefile for accurate drawing. Bradford's own page lists phone hours as Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 8am-4pm, which differs from GOV.UK's 8am-7pm / 8am-2pm.
